I live in Lagos, of which Praia da Luz is a part of, and I know the ‘McCann’s’ apartment very well.’

Do you know of the ‘service area under the McCann’s apartment’ which Rebelo was reported to have spent some time inspecting?

i wouldnt be able to just sit on my childs bed whilst people searched…i would have to be out there looking too and i wouldnt stop…i couldnt, not to sleep or anything. id have searched all night.

i also wouldnt have left my other 2 children in the room and run off to raise the alarm. i wouldve woken them and carried them with me if i thought one of my children had been taken! id have made sure my children were ok, i would definitely have lifted them from their cots! how could u leave them there alone after something has gone terribly wrong.

It just doesnt add up, the reactions of the parents and friends, the unwillingness to cooperate in the investigation…it definitely looks like a huge cover up and the fact is, the truth will never come out, everyone has been silenced.

IF the McCanns have been telling the truth then I apologise, unreservedly and in advance, for what I am about to say. I cannot imagine anything worse than to lose a child – whatever the circumstances – and just because the McCanns have shown themselves to be such a repellent couple throughout this affair does not mean that basic human decency does compel one to retain a degree of fellow feeling for them (ever declining though as they continue the way they do, but a remnant remains).

With the great caveat that I am not a great fan either of large chunks of the media and take a great deal of what is said by then with bushels of salt – from the very first mention of this whole affair I expressed the view to my partner that the McCanns had at one and the same time both exposed their involvement in some way in the “disappearance” and what shown what appalling people they are, irrespective of any involvement.

The initial reports I saw stated always that the McCanns first reaction was that the child had been abducted. Why? I don’t believe that would be the standard reaction of any normal (or should I say “innocent”) parent. If you are ………………..{insert here the word you feel best suits – I can’t choose between selfish, gormless, cheap, uncaring, mean, irresponsible are amongst the most printable ones} enough to leave your kids unsupervised and you come back and find one gone you do NOT rush back to your drinking buddies and say your child has been abducted. SURELY you first reaction is that she has wandered off?

And the plethora of statements they put out repeatedly saying that “we’ve all done it” (ie left the children alone) as an explanation as to why they weren’t supervised. NO WE HAVEN’T. I am a “single father” and have spent many a happy day at on holiday with my son when aged 8—14 –and many an extremely tedious night “confined to barracks” to make sure he was OK. And I don’t claim any brownie points for this – that’s what the overwhelming majority of parents do. You (McCanns) even had both the availability of a baby-sitting service which you were too cheap to pay for AND were in a largish group – if you had taken regular turns then you and you and your buddies would have needed only the occasional night “off the booze” to run a rota system to check on the kids. I can’t believe that in the dead of the night – away from the obscene publicity machine you have created – you don’t lay awake thinking that – it might be good for your soul* if you admitted at least that – or maybe you have even worse things on your conscience?

Again I can only rely on media reports and “third hand” information but as I understand it the other two children slept through the whole, or at least a great part, of PC Plod and others tramping around the apartment. They were very good sleepers evidently – too good I think. Is that what happened to Madelene? I don’t know of course and as I said before IF (which you will gather I doubt to put it mildly), IF the parents had nothing to do with it then they suffering unimaginably – and I am sorry – they have still shown themselves to be an obnoxious pair – but you must still have a soupcon of sympathy.

Confronted with the just the basic information and ignoring what seems to an outsider to be bucket-loads of other damning facts any moderately intelligent human being must come to the conclusion that you were involved. For what it is worth I don’t think you set out to kill her but…………..

If that is the case you owe it to her memory to put an end to the charade – or do you feel you are in too deep for that? You may be but you are young enough to still have a life afterwards – and are lucky enough to have two children you could nurture and look after properly. Possibly more than you deserve.

1. We could quite easily have denied your comment. However, we did allow it through, because we are unbiased and will let opinions through that probably are not the same as ours.
2. However, your comment glosses over facts. Facts like John McCann being interviewed and saying the car was rented 5 weeks after Madeleine went missing. This is a blatant lie. The car was rented approximately 3 weeks after she went missing. Where did the missing two weeks go to?
3. 15 out of 19 DNA markers are sufficient to bring a conviction in the UK and the USA.
4. The McCanns – who you seem to favour – have not answered all the questions despite their assurance they would fully cooperate with the authorities. Kate McCann for example, failed to answer 48 important questions.
